You are not playing Parcheesi because this is a board-game course.
You are playing because the game gives everyone in the class a concrete system to observe.

For now, your job is simpler:
Play enough of the game to notice what exists, what changes, and what is connected.
In classic Parcheesi, each player controls a set of pieces and tries to move all of them from the starting area, around the board, and into home before the other players.
The exact printed or course-provided rules for the Parcheesi set you are using control the game. Editions can differ in some details, so use those rules whenever they differ from this introduction.
You do not need to become an expert player.
You need enough experience with the game to recognize a meaningful game situation.
Before the first turn, look at the board.
Identify:
A standard classic set uses four players or fewer and four pieces for each player.
Notice that the physical board contains information even before anyone moves.
A piece's color connects it to a player.
A piece's location tells you something about where it is in the game.
A marked space may affect what can happen there.
You do not need formal modeling vocabulary yet. Just practice noticing details that could matter.
In classic rules, a piece normally enters the board when the dice provide a total or individual die value of five.
Once a piece has entered the path, dice rolls determine how far pieces can move.
Movement follows the direction shown by the board and the rules supplied with your edition.
For this course activity, do not worry about memorizing every exception before you begin.
Keep the rules available and look up a rule when a situation occurs.
That is also good technical practice: when a system has defined rules, use the rule source rather than guessing.
A turn is more interesting than simply moving a piece.
A player may need to decide:

Classic Parcheesi includes rules that make the positions of pieces matter.
A piece can normally capture an opponent's piece by landing on it, sending the captured piece back to its starting area.
Marked safety spaces protect pieces in most situations.
Two pieces belonging to the same player can form a blockade under classic rules, preventing pieces from moving through that occupied space.
These interactions are useful for this course because they show that pieces do not exist independently.
What one piece can do may depend on:

After traveling around the board, a piece enters its own home path.
Classic rules require the piece to reach home using the required exact movement.
The first player to bring all of their pieces home wins.
Again, winning is not the important course outcome.
The important part is experiencing enough turns to recognize how the game changes over time.
During play, choose one moment and pause.
Describe what you can see without drawing a diagram.

A piece belongs to a player. A piece occupies a space. Two pieces may interact because of their locations.
Keep your observations concrete.
Do not try to turn them into a formal software model yet.
