0.1 Play Parcheesi

Overview

Play a game of Parcheesi with one or more of your fellow students, your instructor, or an instructor's assistant. Because class sizes vary and the course is self-paced, it may be difficult to find someone from NTC who can play at the same time as you.

If you are unable to arrange a time, you may play against anyone else you know (or don't know!) or against a computer opponent.

What to notice

As you play, pay attention to concrete game objects such as players, pieces, spaces, and the board, along with information about them and the relationships among them. These observations will support later modeling work.

1. Review Parcheesi

If you need information about the game before you begin, review the current course page.

2. Find Someone to Play

Post your request to play in the fundamentals channel on Slack, and offer some available times.

Try to arrange a game with one or more fellow students, your instructor, or an instructor's assistant. If that is not practical, you may play with another person or use a computer opponent.

3. Play Parcheesi

You may use one of the options below or another site or app, as long as the game you play is Parcheesi.

4. Notice the Game Objects

While you play, identify examples of specific game objects and information associated with them.

  1. Notice objects such as players, pieces, spaces, and the board.
  2. Notice information that describes those objects during the game.
  3. Notice which objects are connected or associated with one another in the game state you observe.

By the end of the activity, you should be able to identify concrete Parcheesi objects, selected information about them, and basic relationships that can later be modeled.

5. Capture the Required Evidence

Capture two screenshots. In both screenshots, keep the Windows taskbar visible so the date and time can be read.

  1. Capture an in-progress online Parcheesi game. The game should visibly be underway, and the taskbar date and time must be visible.
  2. Capture your request to play posted in the fundamentals channel on Slack. The request and the taskbar date and time must both be visible.

6. Submit Screenshots to Canvas

Submit the following screenshots directly to Canvas. Each screenshot must be readable, include enough surrounding context to verify the required evidence, and avoid unrelated or sensitive information.

  1. The in-progress online Parcheesi game with the taskbar date and time visible.
  2. Your request to play in the fundamentals Slack channel with the taskbar date and time visible.

Both screenshots are required.
