Attacks can take on a multitude of variations and can be launched at any time.  If users are not vigilant with regards to security, they are that much more likely to be attacked.
But what is a person to do?

There are multiple solutions to this dilemma and the solution(s) that you find and install will have to be continually updated and evaluated.  If you install a solution one day, it can very likely be obsolete the next.
