Creating a Custom WIM Image.

O.K. We are ready to build a custom image. But first, what kind of custom image - Thin, Thick, Hybrid?

• THIN
  • No applications
  • Very fast
  • Less management up front to build
  • More management later to update
• THICK
  • Contains applications - at least most common applications (Common Operating Environment)
  • Ready to use
  • More management up front, less after installed
• HYBRID
  • Can add applications to your image without recreating image from syspreped OS.
  • Applications can be selected to be installed during deployment or through Software Center or Application Catalog.

Creating the Custom Windows 8.1 Image

We will build the thin image using instructions outlined in your book. Prior to preforming these steps, please upgrade ConfigMgr to cumulative update 3 (CU3). This update is located on the S: drive within the NOM2 folder.

Also, once you deploy your task sequence for this task, right-click on each of the boot images and update the deployment to the distribution point, this will ensure that the boot image is properly linked to the task sequence that you just deployed.
