Install Microsoft Exchange Server 2016 with the Mailbox role.
Run the setup.exe file located in the c:\setup\Exchange2016 folder. This will open the installation wizard which will check for prerequisites and install Exchange Server 2016.
Note: there are two roles for Exchange Server: Mailbox role (which is the core role for Exchange server) and the Edge Transport Role (which runs in a de-militarized zone (DMZ) and works as the frontend to the Mailbox role when it is accessed from outside of the network). We will be installing just the Mailbox role.
Perform these steps once in the wizard:
- Skip the check for updates (don't check Connect to the Internet and check for updates, rather check Don't check for updates right now).
- The wizard will copy files, when finished the process will start that will initialize Exchange for installation. This may take a few minutes.
- Click next.
- Click next to accept the license agreement.
- Click next to use recommended settings. These are the settings that will get Exchange up and running.
- Click the Mailbox role and then click next.

- Take the default installation directory. Note, however, that since Exchange will consume alot of diskspace overtime within an Enterprise network, it would be a good idea to store exchange on a larger storage device.

- When prompted to establish a name for your Exchange organization, name it ViaMonstra. In this screen, notice how you can apply Active Directory permissions to your Exchange organization, we will use the Administrator account to manage Exchange.

- On the next screen do not disable Malware scanning, click next.
- Your installation will begin to check whether you have met the prerequisites. With all of the features and APIs that we had previously installed, we should be good to go. If not, you will be informed as to what has to be done to continue. Ignore warnings.

There will be 15 phases of the install that will involve coping files and setting up roles, they are as follows: (allow 15 - 60 minutes).
- Organization Preparation
- Stopping Services
- Copy Exchange Files
- Language Files
- Restoring Services

- Mailbox Role: Transport Service
- Mailbox Role: Client Access Service
