Overview/Purpose

Corporate networks must be highly integrated with network security systems, settings and policies.   A business has to continue functioning, despite the constant threat of cyber-attacks.   This chapter introduces network security concepts such as what the threats are, common solutions to the problem, and some suggested frameworks for initiating a security policy.

  • Examine today’s attack methodologies.
  • Explore the differences between a Virus, a Worm and a Trojan Horse.
  • Explore Cisco’s Network Foundation Protection Framework
  • Explore GNS3

  1. READ Chapter 1: Modern Network Security Threats from CCNA Security Version 1.1.
  2. COMPLETE the class discussion board requirements (NS PAT 1-1 Discussions).
  3. CONTRIBUTE to the in-class discussion regarding top ten practices of network security (NS PAT 1-2 Top Ten Practices).
  4. CONFIGURE a simple virtual network using GNS3 (NS PAT 1-3 GNS3).
  5. REVIEW chapter content.
