Overview/Purpose

Before you continue into the realm of voice networks you must first understand that the traditional analog phone systems will be a part of everyone’s communication systems for a long time to come.   What this means is that the new system of digitized voice must be integrated with the traditional systems.  Certainly, there will likely be a time when all of phone systems will be on the Internet, but for now, this learning plan will focus on the foundations of the public switched telephone network (PSTN), private branch exchange (PBX) systems, and analog and digital circuitry.
